What is Google’s AMP?

AMP is an acronym for Accelerated Mobile Pages Project. It is an open source initiative by Google that symbolizes the vision that publishers can create once and get it loaded instantly anywhere. Simply put, it means Google will show its users the carousel highlighting the stories on AMP enabled websites.

This will greatly help to load pages faster than you can think and will also use eight times less data than traditional website and optimized web pages. Since, a better and faster loading website is good for everyone; it is a warm welcome for all. Through AMP, a page will load in less than half second as per the usual 3 second slot.

What do Publishers think?

Google, Facebook and Apple have long been rivals and these three have been working and competing hard to make internet experience and website work better on mobile platforms. While the search giant says that 40% of the users are prone to abandon any website that takes up loading time of more than 3 seconds. Now see what is happening:

May 2015: Facebook revealed Instant Articles.

Is Google AMP as fast as assumed?

Mobile optimization is the key, especially when you are trying to stay relevant to SEO. It will help to have mobile friendly website but the question here is: Do we really need to have Google AMP pages?

AMP version will offer the publishers less designs but blazing fast speed. Why? Because AMP will eliminate the third party scripts, creating a bare bones version for mobile and the less tags your website will have, the faster loading times you will see.

Finding Google AMP Mobile-Optimized Content

There are a lot of opinions about how we can find AMP optimized content online and how and what will be done to the organic search results now when AMP will be in its full effect. Firstly, we need to understand that AMP is nothing sort of ranking factor. However, it is also that it will affect the impressions, user experience, clicks which in turn will affect the SEO. Google has currently planned to hold the AMP News carousels above the fold on mobile platform and thus, pushing the organic search results downwards. This means, in case you are now in AMP bandwagon, you are likely to see a fall in user engagement, impression and clicks.

Basically faster loading mobile pages will give more page views and thus more ads.
